Yamaha Global Internship

Yamaha Corporation is recruiting a wide range of competitive R&D engineers for its internship programs. Interns will be working at the Innovation Center, which is Yamaha's dedicated R&D headquarters located in Hamamatsu, Japan. The program will span approximately 12 weeks in 2021 summer season, and also will support your travel and accommodations. Interns will be members of teams which include other Yamaha researchers and engineers.

    Investigation and design of Synth algorithm with VST plug-in SDK, to materialize new tone generator for future products
    SKILLS
    • Required: Digital Audio Signal Processing, C/C++, Electric/Electronic Circuitry, Electro-Acoustics, Basic knowledge in software synthsizer
    • Desirable: DSP coding in C language (low level programming), ability to play musical instruments, knowledge/experience in music production using DAW
  • Development of Digital Mixer FX using VST Plug-in SDK

    Process & Objective
    Investigation and design of FX algorithm with VST plug-in SDK, to materialize new FX modules for future products
    SKILLS
    • Required: Digital Audio Signal Processing, C/C++, Electric/Electronic Circuitry, Electro-Acoustics, Basic knowledge in professional audio equipment
    • Desirable: DSP coding in C language (low level programming), Knowledge/Experience in audio DSP programming, by using existing framework such as MatLab, iOS, VST SDK by Steinberg, Audio Mixing Experience
  • Development of Cloud Service for Administrating Network Products

    New feature development in Yamaha Network Organizer, in order to gain insights in quality control and its process in Japanese manufacturing
    SKILLS
    • Required: Scripting language in Linux (Python, PHP), Cloud Service System (AWS), Basic Knowledge in Network Administration and Protocols
    • Desirable: Eagerness to adapt to Japanese business culture

    image Singing synthesizers and/or tone generators
    Research and development of technologies for singing synthesizers and/or tone generators that generate emotive sound comparable to that of professional musicians. DNN-based technology has a potential to create expressive music by new way that is different from conventional way. You will be a part of a team tasked with creating a DNN-based singing and tone generator system.
    SKILL
    • Required: Expertise in programming (C/C++, Python), machine learning, and signal processing
    • Strongly welcomed: Expertise in mathematics for machine learning, and experiences with musical instrument performance or singing
  • Multi-point room optimizer prototyping for studio monitors
    image Automatic expressive audio effects
    Acoustically optimized listening room is important environment for music creation. In general, the transfer function only descrtibes the one-by-one sound propagation between a loudspeaker and an ear. However, an actual listening situation consists of many-to-many sound propagations, how to consider among multi-points? The potential method can be considered by utilizing the spatial covariance. "QRD-RLS Adaptive Filter" is well-known and fast adaptive filter algorithm and it strongly relates to the covariance matrix. You will be a part of a team tasked with developing the room optimizer system by statistical signal processing.
    SKILL
    • Required: Expertise in programming (C/C++, Python), statistical signal processing
    • Strongly welcomed: Background in mathematics for machine learning

  • Multimodal interactive machine musician
    image Multimodal interactive machine musician
    Research and development of interactive generation of musical performance (audio/midi/motion) for creating a multimodal and interactive machine musician that understands and responds to human musicians in a real-time musical performance. You will be part of a team in human-computer interaction for music, tasked with creating interactive systems for musical performances.
    SKILL
    • Required: Expertise in programming (C/C++, Python) and machine learning (e.g. deep learning)
    • Strongly welcomed: Background in mathematics for machine learning, signal processing, music informatics, computer vision, AR/xR and/or human-computer interaction
    • Welcomed: Experience with musical performance and/or production
