Yamaha Global Internship

Yamaha Corporation is recruiting a wide range of competitive R&D engineers for its internship programs. Interns will be working at the Innovation Center, which is Yamaha's dedicated R&D headquarters located in Hamamatsu, Japan. The program will span approximately 12 weeks in 2022 summer season, and also will support your travel and accommodations. Interns will be members of teams which include other Yamaha researchers and engineers.

    DNN-based technology has a potential to create expressive music by new way that is different from conventional way. You will be charge of research and development for making practical application such as real-time performance or multilingual synthesizer.

  • Adaptive speech enhancement for home audio devices

    Making voices easier to hear and understand is one of the most important tasks for consumer audio system/devices. Adaptive filter processing using the harmonic structure of voices has a potential to realize it. You will be a part of a team tasked with developing adaptive signal processing for voices.

    Research and development of speech enhancement which processes adaptively to the audio source. Main purpose is to reduce computational complexity of adaptive processing.

    [Research Engineer]
    Implementation of a MATLAB/Simulink model for speech enhancement using adaptive filter. Trials of automatic generation of C/C++ code from MATLAB/Simulink model.

  • Room acoustic optimizer prototyping using smartphone

    Smartphone has become very familiar and its performance has improved and powerful these days. Integrating its many sensors (e.g. microphones, cameras) and home audio system has potential to provide more optimal/personal listening experience. You will be a part of a team tasked with developing the room optimizer system with smartphone by statistical signal processing and machine learning.

    • Required: Expertise in programming (MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Python), audio signal processing

  • Scene identification of live music with multichannel audio

    With the recent development of deep learning technology, the accuracy of acoustic scene identification technology has improved dramatically. We are also conducting research on scene identification technology to analyze various sound sources recorded by our company. In this internship, you will be a member of a team tasked with developing an advanced mixing system based on machine learning, and you will conduct research and development of a scene identification system for live music sources.The following two positions are available.

  • Design of interactive systems for music education

    In this internship, we will iterate and implement an interactive system for providing suitable feedback and lesson strategies to beginning keyboard players. The intern will be expected to prototype various interaction mechanisms for helping beginning pianists play better, using some of the technologies developed at Yamaha.
    SKILL
    • Required: Programming skills, esp. in UI/UX implementation (MaxMSP, TouchDesigner, Unity, iOS, Flutter, etc.), and programming experience in music (audio and MIDI), machine learning and music information retrieval.
